Speaker Bio
Jean is a plein air artist and gardener, inspired by all the remarkable creatures that inhabit her 2-acre sanctuary. After Jean received her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, she was honored with MICA’s Alfred and Trafford Klots International Artist Residency in Brittany. Her MFA thesis at George Washington University, “A Garden Near and Far,” celebrated her garden. She has been influenced by witnessing the monarch butterfly migrations in Cape May, New Jersey, and Pacific Grove, California, which prompted “Paint Like a Butterfly.” Jean taught painting for 20 years at the U.S. Botanic Garden in partnership with the Corcoran College of Art and Design, at St. John’s College in Annapolis, at the U.S. National Arboretum, and at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
