Field Trip Experiences with the U.S. Botanic Garden
Learn about the types of field trips offered by the U.S. Botanic Garden and register your students for a trip. There is no cost associated with our field trips or educational resources but registration is required. Learn about logistics for any field trip here. We look forward to your visit!
Booking a Field Trip
- Explore field trip types in the dropdown sections below
- On-Site Instructor-Led Lessons and Virtual Field Trips are facilitated and available for groups of 15-55 students
- On-Site Self-Guided Exploration field trips are unfacilitated, for groups of 200 students or fewer, and available during our Conservatory's open hours
- Click through the months to select your field trip on the calendar within each section. You can register for one field trip at a time.
- If you do not see an opening, we are fully booked or field trips are unavailable for that date and time.
- A new webpage will open for your field trip selection. Click the REGISTER HERE button on the lower right.
- Complete the registration to make selections for your field trip and provide information about your class and school.
- You will receive a confirmation email for each field trip you book.

On-Site Instructor-Led field trips are available during the following days and times:

- Minimum of 15 students and a maximum of 55 students.
- Have less than 15 or more than 55 students? Explore the Self-Guided Exploration field trips below.
- Large groups over 55 students can also book multiple Instructor-Led Lessons. We ask that schools limit bookings to 4 On-Site Instructor-Led Lessons per school.
- We allot 90-minutes for Instructor-Led field trips
- Includes a 30-45 minute classroom lesson and time for self-guided exploration of the Garden led by teachers and chaperones.
- If you do not see an opening, we are fully booked or field trips are unavailable for that date and time. You can join the waitlist for our Instructor-Led Lessons if you do not see your preferred dates.
Virtual field trips are available during the following days and times:

Morning Virtual Field Trip (45 min lesson between 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM EST) |
Afternoon Virtual Field Trip (45 min lesson between 12:15 - 1:30 PM EST) |
- Minimum of 15 students and a maximum of 55 students
- Lessons are 45 minutes, live, and instructor-led
- You will choose the start time for your 45-min virtual field trip when you book.
- Start times cannot be later than 11am or 12:45pm (EST) in order to stay within the times allotted for morning and afternoon virtual field trips.
Self-Guided Exploration field trips are availbale during our Conservatory's open hours.
- Groups of more than 75 students must book multiple entry times staggered by at least 15 minutes.
- Maximum 200 students per field trip
- Self-Guided Exploration field trip opportunities are grouped by month on the calendar.
- You will select a date and time within a certain month when you register.
- You can register for one field trip at a time.
- Self-Guided field trips are teacher/chaperone-led and do not involve Garden employees.
- Our On-Site Activity Resources can provide support your exploration. Resource availability is limited, please print resources in advance to guarantee one for each student.
